This past weekend I replenished my tea stock because I was running low on most of my favorites. I thought I would snap a few pictures as I put it all away to show you the best way to store tea! Tea needs to be stored in an airtight container in a cool, dark place for to stay fresh for as long as possible. (Not that it lasts that long at my house…) I came up with this minimalist, low-cost solution mostly out of necessity. It works perfectly for both loose-leaf and bagged tea. So grab a couple jars, some scissors and your tea collection and let’s get it organized!
The Best Way to Store Tea
First, I remove all of the tea from the box and gently pull apart the box at the seams. Then, I place the jar lid over a prominent part of the logo and trace around it. It doesn’t have to be perfect, just recognizable!
Cut this out, pop it into the jar ring and place the lid underneath it.
Now all you have to do is transfer the tea to the jar and screw on the lid! If you have trouble fitting all of the bags into the jar, alternate the direction the bags are facing (right side up and upside down). Wide mouth jars work best for this, but I didn’t have any so I made do! I place my jars of tea on the top shelf of a cabinet away from my stove and dishwasher so they stay nice and cool.
I’ve found this is really the best way to store tea! First, it’s cheap and minimalist. I had most of these jars already sitting around my house from other projects (that I didn’t finish…). Secondly, it’s incredibly easy so it actually gets done. Third, it keeps your tea organized since you can clearly see what’s in each jar, making it simple to serve guests. Most importantly of all, it keeps my tea fresh for months!
P.S.- What are your favorite types of tea? I’m always looking for new ones to try!
